Lot's of gigs coming up this month across London, and back to the seaside again for the 3rd time in as many weeks, plus the final SHORTFUSE of 2006 on the 14th of December with a combination of the usual seasonal mayhem, Poetry Idol Rival Idol's 3, plus the fantastic jazz-folk songstress GWYNETH HERBERT. This month sees also the launch of two fantastic magazines, both celebrating the diversity of the spokenword through the medium of print...and both containing graphic poetry from my collection Roadkill on the digital highway.
The Delinquent - is a new poetry magazine edited by Jeremy Quinn and Jason King, the people responsible for bringing you the infamously raucous no-holds-barred 'Walking the dog' nights. The same infectious boundary blurring quality pervades this first issue, with a selection that is intellectual and witty by turns but never presents itself as highbrow - a fault that all too many poetry magazines easily succumb to. With over 80 pages and over 40 writers, printed on good quality paper bound with a spine (yes, a poetry magazine with a spine – not a staple in sight), for only £3 – or 69p for digital download – everyone interested in exploring the directions the current spokenword/print hybrids are going should get their hands on a copy. Saying that – everyone should get a copy and support one of the most interesting new poetry magazines I've read for a long while.

The Fix
At last someone has the intelligence and the selfless motivation is takes to start a magazine aimed at the behemoth that is the UK stand-up comedy scene. Edited by the lovely people who organise the alternative alternative comedy nights 'The Fix Presents...', and published by the same people who have once again produced a music magazine worth reading - 'Artrocker', Issue One of The Fix features articles on and by the unsung comedy greats Frank Sidebottom and Simon Munnery, listings, reviews, features, plus a poetry section. The poetry section, edited by...erm...Nathan Penlington, will feature poetry by well known comedians and by poets who use elements of stand-up in their writing and performance.
The first issue is due to hit the streets on 6th December, given away FREE with Artrocker, and available at selected comedy clubs*. So, get out there - go and see some comedy, and get your free Fix.
