A few exciting things have tumbled through my door in the last week, including two new magazines:

The Fix - June 2007

The may issue of The Fix looks even better than the previous issues and includes a feature article by the fantastic poet AF Harrold*, a full page short story by Guy Jackson, as well as the regular poetry section - which this month includes some great work by Penny Broadhurst, Vic Lambrusco, S.P. Howarth, James McKay, Liz Bentley, Gareth Jones, plus my 'sycophantic bureaucratic romantic'.

As always you can pick up a copy FREE at Fopp stores across the country, or if you are coming to Shortfuse you can always get a copy direct from me. For full info visit: www.thefixonline.com

The Quiet Feather - Issue 9

Also landing in my hall was the latest copy of Quiet Feather. The theme for Issue 9 is Light - and the interpretation of this theme is as broad as the range of forms: from essays to line drawings, from photographs to short stories, from comics to poetry - it is here my 'Light Trespass' sees print for the first time. This is definitely one of the best literary magazine I have seen for a long time - intelligent without being pretentious, artistic without being pedantic. It covers a lot of ground within its fifty pages, and covers it with gentle and sympathetic editorial sense.

Write to Ignite

The other exciting news is that I have been appointed Director of Write to Ignite - Hackney Word Festival 2007. The festival will take place throughout September in a wide variety of venues across the borough of Hackney. Expect amazing words in strange places and strange words in amazing places. Bars, galleries, book shops, libraries, theatres, cafés, streets, and some very special locations will be the stage for a diverse range of Hackney's best word artists. This festival has something for everyone of all ages.

I have already lined-up some unexpected events that will feature some of the best poets and performers working in the UK. They will have to remain hush-hush for a couple of weeks until the whole programme of events is confirmed in full...but in the meantime, once again, come and make friends: www.myspace.com/writetoignite or to join our mailing list send an email to writetoignite@gmail.com. And I promise you'll be first to know the full festival line-up.

*in a side note, AF Harrold will be performing at Shortfuse on July 19th alongside Stewart Lee - it will be our last show of the season, so come and join us for what promises to be an unmissable event. See www.20six.co.uk/shortfuse for full information.
